Painting a Surfboard using Old School Techniques!

I saw an outdoor shower in the shape of a surfboard somewhere on the interwebs and wanted to do the same thing for our pool that we are having built. I saw some DIY ones that looked cool and even saw several super slick fancy pants Surfboard Showers at almost 3000.00. I wanted something in the middle that was more personalized.. and didn’t want to spend a ton of money in the process. This is a multi step process no doubt and am doing it on the weekends.

These steps are for the design and surfboard only.. the plumbing and mechanics for the shower itself will be a separate blog post.

Step one was to design a surfboard based on my liking. I wanted a classic 60’s/70’s vibe and wanted to personalize it in someway. I found a design online with a 70’s vibe and added an illustration my Dad did back from the 70’s. Not only does it have a classic look, it has a special personal meaning to me and my family.

Cutting the lines with an exacto blade
Masking around image to reduce over-spray
Little bit of red paint

For the next step in the next Blog Post i’ll attempt the shower/plumbing and build out.. Here’s my current blueprint or initial idea of how it should be built.
